The National Academy of Agricultural Sciences is a think tank that provides a forum to scientists to present their views on critical issues relating to agricultural research, education and extension. The Academy encourages cutting edge research in different fields of agriculture and accords recognition to scientists by electing them as Fellows, giving them Awards and admitting young scientists to Associateships.
The election of Fellows involves a rigorous assessment of research achievements of the nominees for which emphasis is given to their scientific publications. Therefore, a need was felt in the Academy for critically assessing the published work of the nominees for the Fellowship/Associateship and for developing a transparent and quantifiable mechanism that avoids arbitrariness in assessment. Accordingly, the Academy initiated a process of rating of scientific research journals with the primary objective to bring uniformity in the evaluation of publications by the nominees for Fellowship/ Associateship by different Sectional Committees.
Increased the Indexing and IC Value of EJFA
The indexing of Emirates Journal of Food and Agriculture (EJFA) has been increased to a wide variety of international bibliographic databases and abstracting services. You can see that the number of indexing of EJFA is now 93. And, recently, Index Copernicus International released their 2010 IC value for the world’s most important scholarly journals. The EJFA received an IC value of 5.28 which is a good number while comparing with previous years. IC value of a journal is calculated on the basis of five important parameters such as Scientific quality: 580 base points (58.0%), Editorial quality: 200 base points (20.0%), International availability: 135 base points (13.5%), Frequency-Regularity-Stability: 50 base points (5.0%), Technical quality: 35 base points (3.5%), Total: 1000 base points (100,0%). The international indexation, the annual percent of original research papers, the number of papers published annually from centers outside the journal’s country of origin indirectly indicates the journal’s acceptance on the international market, the number of all papers published on annual basis and the international editorial board are evaluated to assess the scientific quality. The leading element to assess the editorial quality is the uniform composition of presented manuscripts and adherence to the authors’ guidelines of journal. International availability is evaluated by considering two important factors: the language of publication (English is preferred) and the internet availability. Regularity of issue is also assessed, which is an important factor for the stability of a journal. Technical quality is determined by proper presentation of the scientific content. On behalf of the Editorial Team, we express our profound gratitude to all our Authors, reviewers and readers for this exciting achievement.
